Terminal 2 and 3

A small part of terminal 3 is reserved for low cost carriers. In order to calculate a low price for airport charges to these carriers there will not be a lot of facilities in this part of the terminal. The retail will be minimal, a small shop for the basic needs of the passengers, a coffee shop and a shop for breads etcetera.

The retail in terminal 2 and 3 is different from terminal 1, because these are focussed on transfer passengers. Transfer passengers generally have less time to go shopping, as most MCT’s are around one hour. With checking in and walking to the plane there is not a lot of time left to relax and go shopping. These kinds of passengers are more attracted by smaller shops which are clearly organized. Also will there be some small restaurants for a small fast snack, lunch or dinner. Because terminal 2 is more focussed on transfer passengers to and from Asia, and terminal 3 is more focussed on passengers to and from the European Union, there can be a specialisation made. The food which is most common in these regions can be sold in the specific terminal to make the passengers comfortable and feel at home.

If the passengers have a transfer which takes a couple of hours, or maybe night, they are not allowed to leave the airport. This is because of the regulations of Saudi Arabia. In such a case they can take the underground train and go to terminal 1, because this one has more facilities to entertain passengers for a longer time. Also if they need to make an overnight stay they can take a hotel for a night.
