Phase 1

Terminal 1 and 3

In 2014 phase 1 of the KAIA 2 project must be finished. In phase 1 two terminals will be operational, Terminal 1 that will function as the main terminal for KAIA and ½ of terminal 3 that will host the LCC part of KAIA airport.
Terminal 1 will be the base of the whole airport. The design is a triple story design with a departing floor on floor +1, an arriving floor on floor 0 and an Automatic People Mover (APM) on floor -1. Terminal 1 will also be the only terminal that will host international and domestic traffic operations. These two areas will be separated to create an efficient Pax flow.

When a departing passenger enters the airside area, they will enter a retail area to stimulate the passengers to make use of the retail facilities and generate revenues for the airport. Relax areas including vegetation are also part of the design in phase 1: open spaces, natural lighting and relaxing influence will be placed in the open areas within the retail areas. The focus of this is to create a relax atmosphere and stimulate the use of retail facilities. At the end of the international side an international hub area can be found that will cover a wide area on the first and ground floor. Beneath this international area an APM station is located for transferring pax between the terminals.

The international hub area will be an open area with a lot of retail and relaxation areas.  In the center a conference center is located that stretches from the ground floor to the top of the terminal building, hosting conference centers, an airside hotel and VIP lounges.

Terminal 1 will be in phase 1 also the domestic and international terminal. With its hub carrier (Saudi Airlines) and its SkyTeam partners located near the international hub area and the domestic area to have a good connection between domestic and international pax.

The first part of terminal 3 will host the LCC-carriers and passengers. The terminal will include check-in areas and will consist out of minimal facilities. This terminal will be the new home base for NAS Airlines and will support future growth of the LCC market in the Middle East.
